Imagine you’re looking at a drawing of a face. Normally, faces look smooth and round, right? But what if you took that face and turned it into a puzzle made of different shapes—triangles, squares, and circles? That’s kind of what Cubism is!
Picasso, who was a super famous artist, didn’t want to paint things the normal way. He wanted to show things from different angles all at once! So instead of just drawing a face the way you see it, he would break it into shapes, mix it up, and make it look cool and interesting—like a puzzle or even a robot sometimes!
Cubism makes you look at art in a new way. Instead of saying, “That looks just like a face,” you get to ask, “Whoa! What shapes can I find in this face?” It’s like turning pictures into fun brain games! Picasso and his friend Georges Braque started Cubism, and their paintings look wild and exciting—kind of like dream worlds made of shapes.
That sounds like a fun project for a rainy day (or any day really). So we’ve put together a Cubism inspired face art project. You can print the face template we’ve provided, along with a few examples of eyes, noses and mouths (or you can draw certainly draw your own). Color them, cut them out, mix them up, and make it look cool and interesting. Create your own wild and exciting artwork, just like Picasso!
